HIGHLIGHTS

·         I received a T-28  TROJAN  RTF by ParkZone as my 10th birthday present on July 25, 2008, together with a couple of extra GForce 20C 2250mAh 11.1V LiPo batteries and a Max E6 Multifunctional Balancing Battery Charger Value Hobby.

·         I started flying lessons with my instructor, Peter Carbin, at the Antelope Valley Tailwinds Radio Controlled Model Aircraft Club in Lancaster, California, on August 3, 2008.

·         I presented my T-28 Trojan at the Antelope Valley Tailwinds Radio Controlled Model Aircraft Club’s September 2008 monthly meeting, on August 7, 2008, and won the Model of the Month.

·         I made my first take offs on August 21, 2008.

·         I made my first landings on September 14, 2008.

·         I flew a glow radio controlled airplane for the first time, on November 29, 2008.  I flew Mr. Bob Sumoski’s Sig LT-40.   I did not take-off or land but was given time in the air.

·         On December 6, 2008, my instructor said that I was ready to solo and fly by myself.   My father asked for additional “buddy box” time until I am more consistent.

·         During a flying session on January 19, 2009, my instructor placed the body box on the chair, told me to complete the flight and walked away. He had done this before so it was not surprising to me. He walked to the pit area and started asking me to do some maneuvers. At some point after a landing, he surprised me by yelling; “Congratulations Alan; you’ve just passed your flight review. You can fly by yourself now!” I later came to find out that he had asked Mr. Sumoski to be the witness for my flight review.   Of course it's not like I actually piloted one of those real planes running cheap flights, but I felt really proud. My father told me that I had done great and that I had completed all my training without causing any damage to my airplane; only two propellers had been tip-scratched.

·         Two weeks later, on February 1, 2009, Alan flies by himself  for the first time.

·         Alan received his solo certificate on February 5, 2009, at the Antelope Valley Tailwinds Radio Controlled Model Aircraft Club September / 2008 monthly meeting, on September 3, 2008

My father is a glow engine modeler but he wanted me to learn in an electric airplane for ease of use at my age. Instructor Peter Carbin is an electric modeler at the AVTI Club and recommended this airplane as a trainer because it is a gentle flyer at low speeds, and a low wing transition airplane at higher speeds.
